ABOUT US
Hi, My name is Misti. In 1989, I started a riding academy for kids, and in 1990 I opened an overnight horse camp. A few years later I opened a liberal arts school for kids in Lacey called Sunshine Academy which operated for nearly a decade. The riding academy is still active, and has won best riding academy in Olympia for over 10 years. I have always wanted to blend the curriculum of Sunshine Academy with the physicality and outdoor element of the riding academy and it has finally come to fruition, the result being Storybook Stable.
I purchased this farm in 2007. Located in the picturesque South Bay area of Olympia, WA, I first saw it when I was 10 years old, and fell in love. It was at that time I vowed to one day own the farm and wake up each day to every beautiful view she offers. At the time, Ms Miller, the librarian at South Bay Elementary, was my librarian at Lakes. She still remembers how I talked about the farm I now call home.
As I got to know the property, folks would pull in the driveway randomly and tell me neat stories about their history with the place. I soon understood that this farm was a place for everyone, and many in the community have a connection to it. That's when I knew it was to be shared. (As much as the county will let me, anyway). Taking in to consideration land use laws but also the needs of the community, especially youth, I have planned events and programs that will open the doors to farm life to all. Now more than ever, kids need a safe place to be outdoors, off devices and immersing themselves in nature and farm life. This is where life skills are built, and confidence and self reliance are gained.
From Fiber Fests to Farm Camps for the kids, we are your local farm to visit and enjoy. We can't wait to meet you!
